Description.
Hetian jade figure in a yellowish-green hue with ochre inclusions. The piece depicts a scene of spiritual retreat, in which the image of an Arhat, or Buddhist sage, with mature features and a contemplative expression, is seated inside a grotto in front of a young disciple who is offering him a ritual object. On the reverse, it displays a rugged surface adorned with pine trees in relief and an engraved calligraphic inscription. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
