Description.

Yellow jade with marked reddish-brown areas and natural oxidation patinas covering much of its surface. The work features a round sculpture of a mythical beast, depicted with a compact body and tense musculature. The creature is crouched, with its head raised and jaws open, baring its fangs in an expression of protective ferocity. Anatomical details, such as bulging eyes, flaming eyebrows, wavy mane and spine marked by a row of protuberances, have been defined by fine, powerful incised lines and reliefs. Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) or later.
