The piece is shaped like a plaque with sinuous edges, decorated on both sides with a Taotie mask in bas-relief combining volutes, archaic scrolls and a fine scale pattern. It has a small hole at the top for hanging. The surface has a glassy polish and shows signs of natural erosion, attesting to its age. Warring States period (475–221 BC) or later.
