Yellow jade zoomorphic figure, Shang dynasty

Imposing yellow jade sculpture. It depicts a mythical and powerful beast in a crouching position, with facial features, spine and legs defined by deep, incised, angular lines in a geometric style. The material displays a rich, deep patina combining yellow tones with intense browns and ochres, evidence of its age. Shang dynasty (c. 1600-1046 BC) or later.
