Description.

Oil on panel in a pastoral style. The composition depicts an intimate encounter or courtship in a dark, bucolic rural setting. In the upper part of the scene, a couple dressed in traditional country attire stands out against a rustic stone wall. The woman wears a long, deep red skirt and a dark bodice, and stands with her hands clasped before a man, who wears a light waistcoat, white shirt, and dark trousers. To the left of the couple, in a shadowy area beneath the foliage of the trees, are two pack animals or livestock. The foreground is dominated by wild terrain, a dark meadow dotted with small white and yellow flowers rendered with loose brushstrokes, which add points of light to the muted atmosphere of the painting.

Size: 19.5 x 20 cm; Size with frame: 24 x 25 cm
