Agate Dzi Bead ‘Banzhu’, Liao Dynasty

‘Banzhu’ bead (板珠), made of greyish agate, with areas of ochre tones and natural milky white bands arranged in concentric circles forming an ‘eye’. It is circular, with rounded edges and a convex profile, and a flattened back. It has a transverse perforation and patina due to ageing. Liao dynasty (916–1125) or later.
