Attributed to J.D. Kestner (20th century) ‘Baby with character’
Lot. 38007884/472
Description.
This is a high-quality ‘character baby’ that stands out for its realistic modelling, including the modelled hair. The head has a serene expression with an ‘open-closed’ mouth. The body is made of a heavy, very soft-touch paste, retaining the original articulation. The finish is notable for the meticulous detail of the extremities, which feature finely painted fingernails and toenails.
Although the piece lacks a mark on the back of the neck, its morphological characteristics and the quality of its materials allow for a solid attribution to J.D. Kestner, also known as the ‘King of Doll Makers’.
Height: 35 cm
