Carved jade amulet ‘Sun God’, Liangzhu culture

Archaic jade plaque in the shape of an inverted U or ‘mountain’. The piece, which is an intense reddish colour, is finely engraved on its main face with a stylised mask of a deity, with large circular eyes and a mouth, on a background of delicate scrolls and multiple lines.
