Carved jade seal ‘Reclining Beast’, 20th century

Dark green jade, almost black, with marked light green and ochre veins distributed across the surface. The piece has a square base, crowned by the carving of a mythical creature in a vigilant pose. The beast is reclining, with its body arched and its head raised, showing its half-open jaws in an expression of strength. The base of the seal has characters incised in a sigillary style.
