Fernando Martínez Checa (1858–1933) ‘Landscape of the Apennines’

Watercolor on paper. It depicts a rustic river flanked by rocks and groves of trees, spanned by two old semicircular arch bridges. The work displays a loose, impressionistic style and a great sense of freshness. The artist does not seek meticulous detail, but rather aims to capture the landscape’s light and color effects immediately, applying the paint with quick, confident brushstrokes.
