Jade ornament ‘Horse's hoof’, Hongshan culture

Carved ritual object, shaped like a hollow tube with thin walls and an oval cross-section, widening towards a slanted or bevelled upper opening. This distinctive type is known as ‘馬蹄筒’. The surface is smooth, in a celadon green tone with yellowish hues and veins in ochre and reddish-brown tones. Hongshan culture (c. 4700-2900 BC). or later.
