Multicoloured natural agate Dzi, Liao dynasty

Agate with a complex colouration ranging from reddish brown to ochre with areas of milky white. The piece is spindle-shaped with a longitudinal perforation. The figure displays a dynamic pattern of natural bands and veins that create a central ‘eye’. It shows patina due to ageing. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
