Pair of porcelain centerpieces "Nymphs", late 19th century
Lot. 38009367/762
Description.
Each piece is architecturally configured as a fantastical carriage or state boat with concave and asymmetrical forms, whose rockery design and vegetal scrolls evoke the Rococo aesthetic. The main structures feature a white base enriched with profuse floral foliage. The most prominent element of each planter is the sculptural group: a classically styled female figure in flowing, translucent blue garments, accompanied by a small white dove. Beside her, a winged cherub in bisque porcelain in flesh tones adds dynamism and mythological narrative to the composition. Both pieces stand on dynamic, sinuous legs integrated into the ornamentation of the body itself.
