Description.

Cylindrical shaped censer made of wood, carved in high relief with great attention to detail. The decoration presents a complex vegetal framework in which large lotus flowers in different stages of flowering, broad leaves and winding stems that run across the entire surface stand out. Among the vegetation there are birds in flight and at rest, possibly cranes or pheasants, symbols of longevity and harmony. The carving, completely openwork, not only exhibits the technical skill of the artisan, but also allows the smoke of the incense to filter elegantly to the exterior. The lower part is decorated with a meander-like geometric fretwork, while both ends - base and upper rim - are topped with smooth rings in dark-toned wood, bringing visual and physical stability to the piece. It is a functional and ornamental object, probably intended for use in devotional spaces or as a prestige piece. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.

Length: 24.5 cm; Diameter of the mouth: 7 cm

Weight: 399 g
